SHABDKOSH - Then and Now

This site started in November 2003 as a dictionary with not even a domain name! Then, it got its own domain in early 2004.

It was one of the leading Hindi language sites in the world to use latest web technologies and present Hindi text in Unicode format. Then, traffic started to grow and it went through a redesign. In late 2004, it got a new look and some new features. The site saw continuous rise in the number of visitors, especially from India. We had to increase server capacity and along with that, refreshed the look and feel of the site once again. In 2006, we introduced an online virtual keyboard for Hindi typing. Again, this was among very few sites to have the virtual keyboard and Hindi typing facility built into the interface. To enhance the database, we sought help from our users. This led to the development of contribute interface. In 2009, there was a complete revamp which took a long time to develop. The site was moved to dedicated servers and redesigned for performance to support millions of searches every month. This is what is online right now!
